Coding and robotics classes for Durham Region schools
Cyber Square sends a trained, police-checked instructor into your school every week to teach coding, robotics and AI to Grades 1–12. We serve public, Catholic and independent schools across Durham Region, including Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Clarington. Your teachers need no coding knowledge and no prep time.
Who this is for
Principals, vice-principals, heads of school and teachers in Durham Region who want coding and robotics taught well, without sending staff on training or buying a cupboard of kits that nobody has time to use.
Situations we hear from schools:
- The Grade 1–8 math curriculum now includes coding, and not every teacher feels ready to teach it.
- The school has robotics kits that sit unused, or kits that are ageing and hard to replace.
- Parents are asking for a coding or robotics club, but no staff member can run one after school.
- An independent school wants a STEM program it can show families at open houses.

What we run in Durham Region schools
During the school day
A 1-hour weekly class for a group of up to 15 students, taught by a Cyber Square instructor alongside the classroom teacher. Lessons connect to the Ontario coding expectations in Mathematics and in Science and Technology.
After school, parent-funded
A coding or robotics club run at your school and paid for by families. It costs the school nothing. You provide the room; we handle the flyer, sign-ups and teaching.
School-sponsored club
The same club, paid for by the school or parent council, so every interested student can join for free.
Every full program ends with Digital Fest, a showcase where students present their projects to parents. Top students can go on to present at the World Digital Fest Summit on 29 January 2027 at the MIT Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts. (Digital Fest is a Cyber Square event; MIT is not affiliated with or endorsing it.)
What students learn, by grade
| Grades | Tools | What they build |
|---|---|---|
| Grades 1–3 | ScratchJr, Scratch, Micro:bit | Animated stories, simple games and their first programs on a physical device |
| Grades 4–8 | Scratch, then Python · Micro:bit sensors · web building · beginner AI | Games, sensor projects, robots that react to light and motion, and simple websites |
| Grades 9–12 | Python · web and app building · AI and machine learning | Apps, websites and small AI projects |

How it fits the Ontario curriculum
Coding is part of the Ontario Grades 1–8 Mathematics curriculum (2020). In the Algebra strand, overall expectation C3 asks students to “solve problems and create computational representations of mathematical situations using coding concepts and skills.” The specific expectations C3.1 (writing and running code) and C3.2 (reading and altering existing code) build each year, from simple sequences in the early grades to more complex code by Grade 8.
The Science and Technology curriculum (2022) adds Strand A, A2 Coding and Emerging Technologies, where students use coding in investigations and to model concepts.
Our instructors plan each unit around the expectations for the grades they teach, so the classroom teacher can see which expectations each lesson covers.

Why Durham schools choose an on-site instructor
- No teacher training needed. The instructor teaches every session, and your teacher can learn alongside the students.
- Kits come with the instructor. We bring Micro:bit robotics kits and ready-made lessons. You provide the room and laptops or Chromebooks.
- Safe and screened. Every trainer has a Vulnerable Sector Check. Student data is never sold.
- Fast start. A trainer can usually start within 2 weeks.
- Low-risk pilot. The First-Term Pilot is $845 per month, per group of up to 15 students (+HST), one 1-hour session a week, invoiced monthly with no upfront payment.

Yes. We teach in person at schools across Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area.
Do our teachers need to know how to code?
No. A Cyber Square instructor teaches every session and brings the lessons and Micro:bit kits. Your teachers can observe or join in.
Which grades do you teach?
Grades 1 to 12, in three bands: Grades 1–3, Grades 4–8 and Grades 9–12.
Does the program cover the Ontario coding curriculum?
Yes. Lessons connect to the coding expectations in the Grades 1–8 Mathematics curriculum (Algebra strand, C3) and Science and Technology (Strand A, A2), and to secondary Technological Education and Computer Studies.
How much does it cost?
The First-Term Pilot is $845 per month, per group of up to 15 students (+HST), for one 1-hour session a week, invoiced monthly with no upfront payment. An after-school club paid for by parents costs the school nothing.
